Rosemount
Technology student
is honoured at Montreal's City Hall
On May 30th, Montreal Region
2006 Skill's Olympic winners were invited to sign the City Hall
Golden Book. RTC's silver medal winner in Industrial Drafting, Hai Bin
Li, signed the book in the presence of Montreal City Official, Mr. Desua,
Industrial Drafting teachers Peter Byron and Atef Messiha, and English
Montreal School Board commissioner Frank Di Cesare. The evening was enjoyed
by all the students, teachers, administrators and commissioners that were
present from the five school boards on the Island. An honour well deserved
for the Olympians! Five other RTC winners that could not attend the ceremony
due to work related engagements were Gold medal winners Hai Feng Liu in
cabinetmaking and Miriam Friedmand in Desktop Publishing, and bronze medal
winners Jian Ming Zhong in cabinetmaking, Dimpal Patel in Industrial Drafting,
and Dong Min Pan in CNC. (May 2006)
A graduate
of Rosemount Technology
gives back to his alma mater
Marc Cloutier, a former RTC
Electromechanics student now working at an engineering firm in Seattle,
Washington has donated four electrical meters with a value of $500. These
meters will be prizes for the upcoming graduating class. This gesture
was Marc Cloutier's way of saying thank you for the excellent education
and encouragement he received as a student at Rosemount Technology. (April

RTC
Business Partner Becomes Benefactor
Recently, an RTC business partner donated a proportional pneumatic control
unit to the Rosemount Technology Centre. This control device is now being
used in the electromechanics program to teach the set up of electroneumatic
circuits. RTC greatly appreciates this industry support. On April 26,
2006, RTC hosted its seventh annual Business Advisory meeting. Forty-one
industry representatives attended the luncheon and gave teachers feedback
on emerging trends in their industry, their employment needs, and suggestions
on how to enrich the programs. (April 2006)
RTC
Hosted Two Skills Olympics Competitions
Rosemount Technology Centre (RTC) hosted two Skills Olympic
competitions recently: cabinetmaking and computer graphics. Eleven students
from various school boards competed in the regional competition to determine
who would represent the Greater Montreal area at the 2006 Provincial Skills
Olympics in Quebec City in early May. This was the nineth edition of the
Skills Olympic competition, that is held every two years, to raise awareness
of Vocational Education in the province. Their aim is to demonstrate the
variety of technical programs available, while at the same time, highlighting
the student's professional abilities. Medals were won by RTC in each of
the four events they competed in for a total of six (two gold, one silver
and three bronze). Students that succeed at the provincial level go on
to compete at the National Skills Competition, May 23-26 in Halifax. (March
2006)
